What do you get when you mix top-notch drag racing with the flare of a Ringling Bros. Circus?
The answer is Burndown at Sundown and it is coming to Route 66 Raceway on a new date: Saturday, July 14.
The Burndown at Sundown, presented by Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing, brings a night of fire-breathing jet-propelled cars rocketing to speeds near 300 miles per hour.
The event coincides with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series exhibition, where more than 500 cars will race during three full days of racing.
“This is a unique event because there is something for everyone. For people who have a love for drag racing – it has that,” said Scott Paddock, President of Chicaagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway. “We are going to have close to 500 cars this weekend competing. But, several years ago, we started to build a very spectator driven exhibition around it and that is what it is. It is our thrill show, it is our night of fire. It is the wow factor. It has turned into a real family event over the years. People like thrill shows and they like the unknown.”
Not only has the Burndown at Sundown become fun family entertainment, it is affordable for the families to attend.
Tickets for the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown are only $20, while kids 12 and younger are admitted for $5. Racing will take place all day, however, the fire and explosion will begin at 5 p.m.
“This is affordable family fun. It is right in the middle of summer, kids are off school and families are looking for things to do and we have all kinds of things,” Paddock said. “The midway will have a lot of fun, engaging things for families to do, music will be a big part of the weekend and fun food and beverage experiences.”
Route 66 Raceway has partnered with Jake Melnick’s XXX Hot Sauce tasting challenge.
Jake Melnick’s, a Levy Restaurant, was voted as one of the “Top Chicken Wing Spots in the US” by the Today Show in 2017. Fans can experience the heat with fire-themed food and drinks including an official courtesy of the infamous Chicago-based restaurant, while music will be performed by The Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club.
Real daredevils will also be on hand as Route 66 added the United States Freestyle Motocross Team performing death-defying tricks high above the racetrack.
