On Monday morning, the 45th edition of the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association/Phil Lawler Summer State Tournament, commences at eight regional sights, around the Chicago-area. 104 schools will participate in the tournament, with dreams of taking home the beautiful Phil Lawler Memorial State Championship Trophy, on July 19 at Route 66 Stadium in Joliet.
Minooka, Plainfield East and Maine South, have garnered top-seeds at the Lockport, Glenbard South and Palatine Regionals. Minooka and Plainfield East, look to avenge 2017 Regional Championship game losses, at Lockport and Glenbard South, this week. At Lockport, in 2017 Minooka, fell to Lincoln-Way East and at Glenbard South, Plainfield East, fell to fellow Bugle school, Downers Grove South. The Mustangs are seeded No. 5 at Glenbard South in 2018.
At Lockport, Plainfield South and Plainfield Central, have garnered No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Lockport is No.6 and JCA is No. 9
At Glenbard South, Benet Academy is No. 7 while Downers Grove North, Bolingbrook and Romeoville are seeds No.13-15.
At Palatine,the Wolves of Niles West are the No. 3 seed.
