The Midwest Soarring Foundation has planned a day of celebration for the April 2 opening of its new Native American Cultural Center in Lockport.
The new location, 133 W. 13th St, is housed in the historic 1863 Train Station in downtown Lockport and located on the I & M Canal State Trail. The celebration will start with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., provided by the Lockport Chamber of Commerce.
Midwest Soarring will give a sampling of Native American culture with activities continuing until 5 p.m. Enjoy Native American dancers in full regalia, drumming and cultural demonstrations. Visit Deshka, an American Bald Eagle provided by Save Our American Raptors, or shop the many art and craft vendors.
Discover the inside of a tipi, participate in children’s crafts and games, and learn the art of fancy shawl dancing.
Enjoy native flute music by Bill Buchholtz, singer Mark Jourdan and Space Goats – a trio made up of Midwest Soarring members.
Refreshments will be available for sale. The event is free and open to the public.
Midwest Soarring Foundation is a Native American non-profit organization that assists with repatriation, protection of sacred sites and educates the public about Native American culture through Pow Wows, cultural programs and environmental issues.
