With Maine South clinging to a 14-13 lead over Mount Carmel with 8:20 left, in the Hawks’ nonconference battle at Gately Stadium on Friday, Jimmy Bartell stepped up. Jumping a Caravan pass route over the middle, the Hawk senior linebacker’s, 25-yard Pick 6 interception TD gave the Hawks a 21-13 lead.
Mount Carmel, would drive down to the Hawks’ 18-yard line, with a little over a minute remaining in the contest. On a 4th and 7, Bartell, would turn out the lights on the Caravan, when he would sack Caravan quarterback Dre Premovic. The Hawks would run out the clock and get out of Chicago’s South Side, with a win and would improve to 2-0 on the season.
After completing 13 of his 18 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, Hawk senior quarterback Bobby Inserra, went down to an ankle injury, in the second quarter. Backup quarterback Cole Dow, completed three of his nine passes, for 62 yards, in relief of Inserra.
Junior wide receiver Ryan Kilburg, caught a four-yard touchdown pass, from Inserra, among his four receptions for 66 yards. Kilburg also hauled in a 45-yard catch and run, from Dow. Junior wide receiver Danny Lazik, had five catchers for 64 yards and ran for 43 more yards on five carries. Kilburg, from his safety position, along with Bartell led the Hawk “D”.
Up next, for the Hawks, will be a Friday night visit to Wilson Field, from state-ranked and undefeated Barrington (2-0), at 7
