The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office announces the filing of three counts of First Degree Murder against Michael R. Kazecki, 38, of the 700 block of McDonough Street in Joliet.
The charges, filed Wednesday afternoon, allege that between Saturday, August 4 and Monday, August 6, the defendant struck Rebecca Kazecki about the body, thereby causing her death.
Kazecki also was charged with one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery alleging that he struck Rebecca Kazecki about the body.
Bond was set at $2 million. The defendant must post 10 percent or $200,000 to secure his release while awaiting trial. He is scheduled to appear in court next for preliminary hearing or arraignment at 9 a.m. on Aug. 23 in Courtroom 405 of the Will County Courthouse, 14 W. Jefferson St., in Joliet.
The First Degree Murder charges carry a penalty of between 20 and 60 years in prison if there is a conviction. The Aggravated Domestic Battery charges carry a penalty of three to 14 years in prison if there is conviction.
The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the state has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
