The Joliet Noon Lions Club 97th annual Awards and Installation Banquet

The Joliet Noon Lions Club celebrated its 97th Annual Awards and Installation Banquet on June 21, 2018.  Elected for the 2018-2019 year were President Anneta Drilling-Sowa, Recording Secretary: John Joseph Honiotes, Financial Secretary: Mark Turk, Treasurer: John Stiglich, Tail Twister:  Bruce Wright, Lion Tamer: William Drilling, Membership Chair: Dianne Argoudelis, Sight Activities Chair: Anneta Drilling-Sowa, Leo Advisor: Melissa Honiotes, Immediate Past-President: Allan Somers.  Directors elected for 2 years: John Argoudelis, Pat Kaveney, Ray Mc Shane, and Val Rand.  Directors for one year: Jerry Girard, Greg Olson, Ken Roberts, and John Simpson.

Awards given out were for participation and for longevity along with Lions of the Year, Melvin Jones Award, an International Foundation Fellowship Award, and a very special Lions International District Governors’ Award.

Sight and hearing impairment are areas that the Joliet Noon Lions Club concentrates upon.  It was reported that to date this year, the Noon Club has supplied exams and glasses for 95 local people and exams and hearing aids to 14 local people.  Over 1000 pairs of used eyeglasses and 16 used hearing aids have also been collected.

Internationally, Lions Club has between the years 2000 and 2014, prevented over 17 million deaths due to complications from measles.  This success is due to its vaccination program worldwide, but especially in Third World and poor countries.
