This year, the Health and Medicine Academy at Joliet West High School is hosting a Healthcare Career Fair on Thursday, April 26. Currently, the Health Occupations students are compiling a career portfolio that includes information on a healthcare career of their choice and information on colleges and programs that will prepare them for their desired career. The portfolio project will culminate with students designing a poster display and preparing a short career presentation. Students will share their results at our Health Career Fair on April 26.
Please consider helping with this exciting endeavor. Joliet West is looking for community members with backgrounds in business, science, engineering, medicine, etc., to be volunteer judges/mentors for the Healthcare Career Fair. The students gain valuable skills presenting their research and discussing their career goals with others. If you can help us, or if you can pass this request on to others who can help, it would be greatly appreciated! Anyone interested in being a Career Fair judge/mentor can contact coordinator, Mary Spata. Parents of students in the class are strongly encouraged to volunteer and witness the hard work of your student and their colleagues.
The program anticipates needing a minimum of 12 judges for each of the 55-minute class periods. Each judge would be asked to evaluate several projects during each period. Judges will be needed for Period 4 (10:20 to 11:15 a.m.), and Period 6 (12:20 to 1:15 p.m.), Period 7 (1:20 to 2:20 p.m.), and Period 8 (2:20 to 3:15 p.m.). Judges are welcomed to work the morning periods, the afternoon periods, or spend the day with us judging all four periods.
If you are able to help with Joliet West’s Healthcare Career Fair, please contact Mary Spata, RN, our Health Occupations instructor at mspata@jths.org or call 815-774-7400 extension 47370.
If you are unavailable on April 26 but would like to take part, please understand that the students also would benefit from Healthcare mentors. The Health Occupations students are interested in many of the healthcare careers. If you have time available to mentor a student by providing an email that students can use to ask for advice or guidance it would be greatly appreciated. Your advice and feedback would help students improve their projects.
