The Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals recently honored a Joliet business with an award for best commercial lighting project. Accents Lighting, which specializes in decorative and esthetic lighting for indoor and outdoor venues, received the award for its work in lighting the Motherhouse at University of St. Francis.
“I take pride in making beautiful historic sites in our area shine even brighter,” said Dave Sloan, owner of Accents Lighting.
Built in 1881, the University of St. Francis Motherhouse was originally the home of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate Convent. In the 1920s, the school moved into the building, located at 603 Taylor St., renovating it to serve as the “front door” of the university. Built from the limestone that was so prevalent in the Joliet area in the late 19th century, Motherhouse proved to be a beautiful canvas to light up, according to Accents Lighting.
The lighting awards program offers the opportunity for lighting companies to be recognized nationally. Award winners were announced at an annual conference and expo in Atlanta.
