Lockport Township High School senior Zachary Rodriguez has been named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
Rodriguez now has the opportunity to compete for available National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program’s goal is to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage their pursuit of academic excellence.
About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. The 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test served as an initial screening of program entrants.
Semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, and include the highest scoring entrants in each state. Merit Scholar designees are selected based on their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
