Comment period opens Aug. 31; ends Sept. 30
The Forest Preserve District of Will County announced that a first-ever countywide bikeway plan will be available for public review and comment starting Aug. 31.
The plan, which will be available on the district’s website, www.reconnectwithnature.org, identifies areas where non-motorized transportation opportunities can be expanded throughout Will County and beyond. According to the forest preserve district, greenways, roadways and utility corridors were reviewed as possible sites for bicycle access improvements.
After the public comment period ends Sept. 30, the plan will go to the district’s board of commissioners for approval. A vote is expected at the Nov. 10 meeting.
While some bikeway corridors already exist in the county, a comprehensive planning guide was needed to improve clarity between multiple user groups and levels of government. The goals of the plan are to expand transportation choices, enhance connectivity, improve safety and comfort, and promote bicycling benefits.
