The city of Joliet announced last week that an independent film production company would begin shooting the movie, “Kingfisher,” Aug. 20.
The movie, which takes place in the fictional town of Kingfisher, involves ghosts, witches and a werewolf, the city said in a press release. The fantasy, comedy that will be directed by Chicago native Austin Vesely, who has directed award-winning music videos. Vesely’s recent music video “Angels” by Chance the Rapper is nominated for “Best Hip Hop Video” at the upcoming 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.
“We are very excited that this production will come to Joliet and will feature our citizens and showcase the sites and scenery of our community,” Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk said. “Movie productions are a vital part of our city’s economic development efforts.”
Brett Hays, one of the movie’s producers and a principal at Champaign’s Shatterglass Films, said praised Joliet in a city news release.
“We look forward to working with Joliet city officials on this venture, and we have already received a warm welcome and offers of assistance from them,” he said.
Assistant city manager Steve Jones working with a film production will help showcase Joliet to potential visitors.
“We like to roll out the red carpet to filmmakers and look forward to helping make “Kingfisher” a successful endeavor,” he said.
Additionally, the city said the film would feature unique Joliet-area locations and producers are looking to use local talent in the movie. Persons interested in being an extra in the film should send their name, age, a picture and availability, along with email and contact phone number to extra@shatterglassfilms.com. Anyone age 12-18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
