Two teens were arrested June 25 after allegedly bringing guns into a Joliet McDonald’s.

The incident occurred at 9:09 p.m. at the fast food restaurant at 508 E. Cass St., when witnesses reportedly noticed the 16- and 17-year-old boys were armed and called police.

Officers arrived within minutes and found the suspects sitting at a booth inside, according to police reports.

“The officers had the subjects place their hands on their heads and stand up. As the subjects did this, officers observed a firearm sticking out of one of (their) pocket,” police said. After the 17-year-old was handcuffed and the unloaded weapon was taken, officers searched the 16-year-old and reportedly found an loaded handgun and cannabis in his pants pockets.

While being taken to the police station, the 17-year-old reportedly tried several times to spit at the officers, eventually spitting on an officer’s hand while being taken from the car. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and aggravated battery to a police officer.

The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a gang member, unauthorized possession of ammunition and possession of cannabis
