Following a unit on severe weather, Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School 2nd graders participated in a live Skype session with Chicago ABC7 meteorologist Cheryl Scott to discuss weather in their home state and what it means to be a meteorologist.
Skype is a computer application where people in different locations can video chat with one another.
Scott also took the students on a virtual tour of the television studio.
“They loved every minute of speaking with her,” teacher Kristi Walker said. “It was an amazing and memorable experience.”
Walker said the students were ready with questions for Scott, including asking her about the most severe weather in Illinois, the weather situations on which she has reported and why she became a meteorologist.
Heritage Trail’s 2nd grade teachers are Walker, Tara Lowe, Sarah Tyrrell and Courtnie Yanke. Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School is a Troy Community School District 30-C school.
