MAY 12-14

Spring plant sale. 8 to 4 p.m. May 12 and 13. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at Lockport Township High School East Campus, 1333 E. Seventh St., Lockport. The sale is open to the public and includes a huge variety of plants at great prices including: annual bedding plants, hanging baskets, mixed planters, perennials, herbs, fruits and vegetables, tropical, house plants, cacti and succulents, cut flowers, carnivorous plants and more. MAY 14

En-Lightening: A Show of Color in the Dark. 6 to 8 p.m. at Galley Seven, 116 N. Chicago St., Joliet. The paintings of artists Rita Rogan and John Bramblitt will be presented with a reception. This reception is free and open to the public. “En-Lightening” opens May 9 and closes on June 4.

 

Will/Grundy Genealogical Society meeting. 10 a.m. at Coal City Public Library, 85 N. Garfield St., Coal City. This month’s program will be presented by Patricia Reaves, a teacher of German at Riverside-Brookfield High School. She was born in Germany and is fluent in the language and the history of the country. She will advise members and guests on research procedures in both this country and abroad. There will be handouts and a display of books and research aids. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served.

 

Springtime Storybooks on Stage. 11 a.m. at Joliet West Auditorium, 401 .N Larkin Ave. Tickets: $3. An event perfect for the whole family…especially kids! Modern Interpretations of the Classic Tales “Cinderella” and “Peter Pan” – completely written, produced, and portrayed by Joliet West Drama students.

 

Preschool Fair. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at White Oak Library Crest Hill Branch, 20670 Len Kubinski Drive, Crest Hill. Are you looking for the just right place for your child to attend preschool? The Preschool Fair brings preschools from all over the area to one spot. Browse booths to learn more about great programs. To go along with the Preschool Fair the children’s department will be offering lots of fun activities like games, crafts, a teddy bear hugging booth and even a visit from a very special therapy dog. Pet Expo 2016. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clow-Stephens Dog Park, 16650 S. Lily Cache Road, Plainfield. This event sponsored by Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and Representative Natalie Manley. Local animal businesses will be on hand to showcase their services. Information will also be distributed to attendees regarding recent animal legislation. Anyone going to the pet expo is encouraged to bring their pets. Nail Trimming for pets will be available. Photos can also be taken at the event of people with their animals.

 

MAY 18

Membership Open House. 7 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council 4400, 1813 E. Cass St., Joliet. The event will include a short presentation about the Council and the Knights of Columbus, followed by food and fellowship.  Membership in the Knights is open to practicing Catholic men age 18 and older. MAY 19

South Side Exiles. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and performers take the stage at 7:30 p.m. At Joliet Area Historical Museum, 204 N. Ottawa St.  Beverage Bar with Beer, wine, and soft drinks available for purchase (coffee and snacks are complimentary). $8 for students with valid ID and museum members or $10 for general public. The Chicago rock crew known as SouthSideExiles play original songs written and performed in the classic American style of the 1970s rock tradition, and their debut LP stands as proof that the old sound is just as charged and solid as it ever was.

 

Springtime Ballroom Dance. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Road. Members of the orchestra are 25+ year music professionals, each with a deep passion for music and entertaining. Several members are music instructors teaching at the university level. Mary Poppins Showing. 7 p.m. at the Rialto Square Theatre, 102 N. Chicago St., Joliet. Join the Rialto in celebrating its 90th Anniversary with a showing of the movie Mary Poppins. This event, sponsored by ExxonMobil, will include a pre-movie reception starting at 5:30 p.m. with Mary Poppins costumed characters and photo ops. Tickets are $5. MAY 21

Trail Safety Days. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rock Run Preserve, Black Road access, located west of Essington Road in Joliet. In-line skaters, walkers, wildlife watchers, runners and cyclists are invited to attend one of these events to learn how to share trails safely. Personal best practices, sharpening trail awareness and rules of trail usage will be explored. Forest preserve police will also be present to talk with trail users and answer questions from the public. Registration is not required for this free, all-ages event.

 

MAY 22

Forest Preserve District Workday. 8 a.m. to noon at Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet. Spend some time this spring and summer helping the Forest Preserve District of Will County maintain its natural areas by volunteering for a resource management workday. Bike Safety Rodeo. 1 to 3 p.m. at Richland School, 1919 Caton Farm Road, Crest Hill. The Lockport Township Park District is hosting a Bike Safety Rodeo for ages 4-8 years. Kids enjoy bike races, skills course, bike decorating, bike raffle, refreshments, bike safety education and more. Goody bags for first 100 kids. Free event, bring your bikes and helmets.
