After dropping a pair of games the previous weekend, Benet Academy needed a bounce back game and that is what it got last week when it defeated Joliet Catholic Academy 59-13 in a game where the starters were only used in parts of the first and third quarters.

“We had a tough weekend no question about that and that was four games in five nights and we needed a bounce back,” said Benet coach Joe Kilbride.

The Redwings lost 51-41 to the defending Wisconsin state champions from Beaver Dam and 60-40 to Mother McAuley the next day.

“I am not going to lose by 10,” Kilbride said. “If we are down, I want to try and win the game and at times, you do things that cause you to be down by 20.

“There are times where we need to push through the pain and discomfort and we didn’t do a great job over the weekend, but the objective with that is to learn from it and keep getting better.”

Kilbride said the public has a expectation of the current Redwings because of the past success of the program.

“They are in a way victims of expectations. I am not on Twitter, but I heard Twitter blew up because of our losses. I told them it is all nonsense,” he said. “Ignore it. The fact that everyone now thinks we are mortal is good, not just go play and enjoy it.

“When you play a really packed schedule and you load them up in a week the way I unfortunately, it is going to have its challenges. We just have to bounce back from it.”

Kilbride knew the Redwings were not going to win every game this season — and he is just fine with that.

“No team is going to go undefeated with the schedule we have,” Kilbride said. “I didn’t want to go undefeated I just want to win the last seven in a row.”
