Senior Star at Weber Place is pleased to offer the Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT) open to the public at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 605 South Edward Drive.

This five-minute eye-opening experience gives a powerful glimpse into the lives of those individuals who are suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.  The VDT® is designed to offer a understanding of what it is like to live with this cognitive disease in the hope that others become more patient and empathetic, and ultimately be in a better position to care for and interact with individuals living with Alzheimer’s.

The simulation recreates the most realistic scenario possible utilizing a home-like environment with tools and daily living activities to depict what it is like for someone living with dementia.  Participants are asked to perform tasks in an altered state whereby the senses are artificially impaired affecting the ability to interpret the environment.

VDT® is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of patented sensory tools and instruction. Created by P.K. Beville, M.S., an award-winning geriatric specialist and founder of Second Wind Dreams®, this evidenced-based program simulates changes associated with cognitive decline.

To register for the VDT®, call Jina at Senior Star at 815.439.9955.
