Top-Ranked Redwing girls roll to Naperville Tourney title

After defeating Bartlett (3-2), in a up-tempo, 64-55 semifinal win on Friday, top-ranked Benet Academy’s (6-0), defense shined in the Benet-Naperville Central Thanksgiving Tournament Championship Game against H-F (4-2). Led by seniors Clara Prasse and Ashley Konkle, the Redwings smothered the Lady Vikings 41-25 for the championship.

Prasse led the Redwings with 12 points and four assists. Konkle hauled down seven rebounds and scored 10 points.

In the Redwings semifinal win over Bartlett, the Redwings jumped out to a 20-10 lead after one quarter,only to have the Hawks close to within 32-25 at the half. The Redwings extended their lead to 54-43 and hold off the Hawks for the 64-55 win.
In a quarterfinal game Wednesday night, upstart Yorkville (2-3), gave the Redwings all they could handle through three quarters. The Foxes only trailed by four, 37-33, as the game entered the fourth quarter. Led by junior Brooke Schramek, the Redwings buried the Foxes with a 14-3 fourth quarter and rolled to the 51-36 victory, Schramek led the Redwings with 18 points.

Angels take third at IC
Joliet Catholic Academy (3-2) jumped out to a 27-18 halftime lead, over ICCP Thanksgiving Tournament host, Immaculate Conception in the third place game Saturday. The Angels defense did the rest as they held the Knights to just 14 second-half points leading to their 41-32 victory. The Angels were led by junior Mia Bertino, who scored 13 points. Sophomore Emma Jay added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while senior Kellen McLeod chipped in with six points.

Blue Demons go 1-3 at Maine East tourney
After blowing out North Chicago 51-21 in its opener Maine East (1-3), fell to Round Lake, Metea Valley and Glenbrook North. In the win over North Chicago, senior Caralina Apostolou led the Blue Demons with 13 points. Sophomore Emina Hanic added 11 points while sophomore Mahima Chokshi chipped in with nine points.

Gardnier’s Buzzer-Beater stuns Libertyville in OT
Maine South (3-3) won three games at The Bison Classic at Buffalo Grove. In their Bison Classic finale, the Hawks saved their best for last against Libertyville. Trailing the Wildcats 21-18 at halftime, the Hawks rallied to tie the game 45 and send it to overtime.
Trailing 48-47, Hawk sophomore Niamh Gardiner’s, buzzer-beating 17-foot jumper, gave the Hawks, the thrilling overtime victory, 49-48.

Lions take second at Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tourney
After suffering their only loss of the season, to tourney champ Walther Christian (5-0), Lisle closed out the Ridgewood Tourney with wins over Guerin and Elmwood Park. The Lions romped past Guerin 69-20 and rolled past Elmwood Park 44-27. to  finish at 4-1.
The Lions were led in the tournament by senior McKenzie Weaver and sophomore Emma Rosa. Weaver led the Lions, averaging 9.4 ppg. Rosa averaged, nine points per game for the tournament. Senior Caitlyn Webber, led the tournament, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.

Indians finish second at Lyons Township
Minooka (3-1) finished in second place in the Lyons Township Thanksgiving Tournament in La Grange, by defeating the host Lions 58-44. The Indians opened up a 32-22 lead at the half and rolled to the 14-point win.
On Friday, Wheaton North (4-0) outscored the Indians 21-2 in the third quarter to roll to a 54-43 win in a game that was tied at halftime at 24. On Wednesday the Indians ran away from Lane Tech 52-29.
Tigers go 3-2 at Lincoln-Way Central tourney
After defeating the host Knights, Joliet West (3-2) fell to Stagg 58-54 in the Lincoln-Way Central Thanksgiving Tournament finale.
After trailing 34-15 at the half,Tiger junior guard Renaya Woods’ long-range three-point bomb brought the Tigers within 38-34 after three quarters. Ashanti Brown’s bucket put the Tigers up 43-41 in the opening minutes,of the fourth quarter.
Tiger sophomore Kiana Smith’s free throw gave the Tigers their last lead of the night at 51-50 with two minutes to go in the game.

Stagg’s Maeli Sanchez connected on a pair of three pointers and scored eight Charger points to finish-off the Tigers.

West was led junior Jazzpher Evans, who led the Tigers with 15 points. Sophomore Ashanti Brown added 14 points and freshman Grace Walsh chipped in with 11.
Cougars finish 2-2 at Hinsdale South
After defeating Neuqua Valley on Tuesday the Cougars fell 58-38 in their Brenda Whitesell Thanksgiving Tournament at Hinsdale South to Sandburg
Wildcats pick up two wins at Willowbrook tourney
Plainfield Central (2-3) defeated East Aurora and West Chicago at the Willowbrook Thanksgiving Tournament in Villa Park.
Bengals win two at Marist
Plainfield East (2-3) blew out Proviso East (4-2) led by Lauryn Hilliard, 55-23 and defeated Rich Central, led by Hilliard at the Marist Thanksgiving Tournament
Tigers go 0-5 at Benet/Naperville Tourney
Plainfield North lost all five of their contests to Naperville Central, Homewood-Flossmoor, Bartlett, Rockford Auburn and Yorkville.
The Tigers played their best game in the tourney Saturday battling Yorkville (4-2) to a 54-52 loss in overtime.
Romeoville gets one victory at Waubonsie Valley Tournament
The Spartans (1-4) won only once in the Waubonsie Valley Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament, but what a win it was. Trailing DeKalb 32-22 at the half and 38-33 after three quarters, the Spartans exploded for 24 fourth-quarter points to stun the Barbs 57-51.

Porters win three at Willowbrook Tourney
Lockport (4-2) won three games at the Willowbrook Thanksgiving Tournament in Villa Park. The Porters beat West Chicago, Plainfield Central and the host Warriors. The Porters were led by sophomore Elena Knebel, 6-foot-3 junior Jenna Cotter and freshman Lindsay Oldendorf. Knebel leads the Porters in scoring at 9.4 ppg. Cotter, averages almost a double-double, with 9 ppg and 8 rebounds. Oldendorf hauls down 8.4 rpg and scored at a 6.4 average.
The Brook” struggles in Ohio.
After defeating Marshall 74-53 on Tuesday, the Lady Raiders traveled to Canton, Ohio for the Bulldog Thanksgiving Tournament. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and the hosts from  Canton McKinley both defeated the Lady Raiders.
West Suburban Silver Recap
Trojans go 3-2 at Schaumburg Tourney
After falling to highly-ranked Maine West (6-0) and Evanston (4-1), the Trojans slipped past Wheaton Warrenville Central 31-27. On Saturday, the Trojans, crushed St. Charles East 41-12, to finish a successful Schaumburg Thanksgiving Tournament at 3-2.
The Trojans were led senior Julie Kramper who averaged 9.4 ppg for the tourney. Senior Jaylyn Harris, added  7.2 ppg and junior Alexis Parker, chipped in with six points-per-game and five rebounds, per game.
