Notre Dame’s Ty Gavin, led his Dons’ to a 24-7 East Suburban Catholic Conference victory, over the previously, undefeated Redwings of Benet Academy, on a wild Week 4 evening. Friday night, Gavin rushed for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Notre Dame defense totally shut down the powerful Benet Academy running game. With the win, the Dons have been named Voyager Media Publications Week 4 Team of the Week.
Every 74-79 years Halleys Comet appears over our skies here in Chicagoland. The Comet named after the 18th century astronomer, Edmond Halley, last made a Chicago appearance in 1986. It’s next visit to us will be in 2061.
On FrIday night, ‘Hailey’s Comet’, made an visit to Memorial Stadium, in Joliet. Joliet Catholic Academy’s, senior running back, Keenan Hailey, blazed as bright as his name-sake Comet, in the Hilltoppers’ 56-13 victory over Carmel of Mundelein. On just 12 carries, Hailey rushed for 223 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns, from 54, 81, 21 and seven yards.
Hailey added a 97-yard kickoff return and a 73-yard touchdown catch,from Hilltopper quarterback, Jordan Alvarez.
On Friday night, September 21 in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood Hailey and his Hilltoppers, will meet the Redhawks of Marist. The early-season East Suburban Catholic Conference, first-place showdown, hopefully will be another appearance of “Hailey’s Comet”. Stay tuned.
At Romeoville High School on Friday night, a different kind of aerial show filled the skies above Romeoville.
As a sophomore pitcher, on June 9, Plainfield North junior Eben Heine,entered the Tigers’ Class 4A State Baseball Championship Game with Huntley, at Route 66 Stadium. With one out, in the top of the seventh, Huntley had the tying and go-ahead-runs, on base with the Tigers leading 4-3.
Heine, would strike out the first Red Raider batter he would face for the second out. Heine would induce a fly ball to Tiger right fielder Garret Cook, for the final out, for the Tigers’ Class 4A IHSA State Baseball Championship.
On Friday night Heine and Cook again would hook up, for a Plainfield North victory.
Tiger wide receiver Cook would catch four passes from Heine, in the Tigers’ 56-13 victory over Romeoville.
The Heine-Cook combo connected on 22, 26, 58 and 13-yard, scoring strikes. Cook would have 115 receiving yards in the game. Heine would throw two more touchdown passes, for six scoring strikes and accumulate 256 yards passing, on the night.
The only undefeated Voyager Media Publications school, the Lions of Lisle, won a shootout in Kankakee County on Friday.
Behind senior quarterback Jay McGrath and wide receiver Demetrius Kellie the Lions outlasted Peotone 34-33. Trailing 33-28, late in the fourth quarter, McGrath would hook up with fellow senior captain Nick Martich, from 18-yards out for the game-winning touchdown.
Kellie would haul in six passes from McGrath for 131 yards and returned a Peotone kickoff 86-yards for a touchdown, Dylan Laue, would rush for 99-yards and score two Lion touchdowns, one from 70-yards out.
Terrific Ten No.1 Bolingbrook and No. 2 Benet Academy, were knocked from the ranks of the unbeatens. Bolingbrook, was steamrolled by H-F 29-0.
Ty Gavin and the Voyager Media Publications Week 4 Team of the Week Notre Dame Dons, surprised the Redwings, 24-7 at Benedictine University in Lisle.
And last but not least, Maine South rolled Conant 42-13 behind quarterbackCole Dow and back atop this weeks Terrific Ten Area Football Rankings. Dow threw for 142 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 102 more yards, including a 25-yard touchdown run.
